vashisht

Hi,

I'm thinking about coming to India for some weeks in June/July.
I've been to Manali/Vashisht 10 years ago and there were lots of
parties during that time (fullmoon, short before the pass to Ladakh opens).

I really liked Vashisht, but I could see lots of building-activities going on.

How is the situation nowadays? Is the magic gone? Or is it still worth it.
I'd really like to hear some opinion of people who know the place from
10 (or more) years ago and can compare...

Greetings, Lars.

I know it from 5 years ago. Yes, lots of building. Yes, lots of charasi tourists. Yes, it's developed.

Yes, some parties in spectacular locations (above Old Manali) with bad sound systems and visiting isreali DJs.

It depends on your taste... if you want to hang out with the backpacker scene and tourist babas, it's a fun meet up spot.

If you want an "authentic" Indian village and freak experience.. you'll have to go over the passes or deeper into the valleys.. or try elsewhere.

vashisht has changed - most of the old guesthouses torn down, zodiac cafe gone... it's still a great place but more of a pilgrim's destination than a hippy hangout these days.
